DIPLOMAS IN SPANISH (DELE)

The Instituto Cervantes offers the option to do the Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE).
Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) are official qualifications, which prove your level of proficiency in the Spanish language and which are awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.

Examinations are held twice a year – in May and November – in 500 examination centres based in over 100 countries worldwide. The examinations include:

• Reading Comprehension
• Written Expression
• Aural Comprehension
• Grammar and Vocabulary
• Verbal Expression

Currently, there are six DELE levels: A1 (Breakthrough Level), A2, B1 (Beginner Level), B2 (Intermediate Level), C1 and C2 (Proficiency Level).

The Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) are official qualifications accrediting levels of competence and domain of the Spanish language, awarded by the Cervantes Institute on behalf of the Ministry of Education of Spain.

Spanish Diploma Level A1; this qualification validates sufficient linguistic ability to understand and use familiar everyday expressions anywhere in the Spanish speaking world, designed to meet immediate needs.

Spanish Diploma Level A2 certifies that the candidate is able to understand sentences and frequently used daily expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. giving basic personal information, family, shopping, local geography, employment etc.).

Spanish Diploma Level B1 (Elementary) certifies sufficient linguistic ability to understand and respond appropriately to the most common situations of daily life and for expressing desires and needs in a basic manner.

Spanish Diploma Level B2 (Intermediate) proves sufficient linguistic ability to function in ordinary situations of everyday life in normal communicative circumstances which do not require specialized knowledge of the language.

Spanish Diploma Level C1 certifies sufficient language skills to communicate clearly without having to limit what they are trying to express. The candidate has a good command of a broad lexical repertoire including idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms.

Spanish Diploma Level C2 (Superior) accredits the necessary linguistic competence to handle situations requiring an advanced use of the language and knowledge of cultural habits that manifest themselves through it.
